Playhard 22 Tournament

The PlayHard 22 tournament was held on Saturday, March 19th in Alexandria, Virginia, USA. The tournament was the fourth edition of the event, which began in 2017. Players traveled to compete and enjoys fun times in Northern Viriginia from states like North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Several clubs were represented such as the Outer Banks Subbuteo Club, Maryland Subbuteo Club, Washington Tuesday Subbuteo League, and AS Hennuyer. Congratulations to Daniel Cranston who won an amazing final against Paul Eyes in OT, 2-1.

Holiday Silver Tournament 2021 Wrap Up

The Holiday Silver 2021 tournament, a FISTF Satellite, was held in Columbia, Maryland, USA on December 4th. Paul Eyes and Daniel Cranston organized and hosted the event, which was the largest this year. Players came from seven states to participate in the annual tournament including California, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Three events were held: the Open, Vets, and U19 championships. Daniel Cranston won the Open against Patrick Sheridan with a score of 1-0. The Vet championship was won by Peter Alegi with Paul Eyes as runner up. Sam Cohen beat Mason Lilly to win the U19 bracket. The weekend of table soccer activity including the Zombie Cup (traditional Subbuteo Rules and equipment); Daniel Cranston claimed that title as well with a win in the final against Paul Eyes.

2021 Western States Open Announced

The ASA is proud to announce the 2021 Western States Open the weekend of November 13 & 14!! Saturday’s start time will be a late flick-off at 2:30pm and will feature the Open tournament along with a Beginner Knockout competition.  On Sunday, a Club Team Format will also take place. 

The ASA thanks the NorCal Subbuteo Club and the Central Coast Condors TSC for co-hosting this event!  The Condors & NorCal can’t wait to start their California Rivalry!  What other Clubs will join the festivities?  If you don’t have a club? No problem, we’ll find you a team!  Details below:

ASA Board Elections in October

We have five nominations to fill the American Subbuteo Association Board of Directors term beginning January 1st 2022. There will be 5 vacancies at the end of this term.

Colorado Subbuteo Club Swiss-Style Tournament

Saturday, October 9, 2021. 9am – 4 pm (PDT)

The Colorado Subbuteo Club is holding a Swiss-style Subbuteo tournament. If you’re not familiar with that, it means each player plays every round and there are no knockouts. This will be an easygoing tournament with many beginners so you should definitely go if you’re at all interested in playing Subbuteo, even if you’ve never played before. There is no entry fee.

2021 National Champions Interviews

Jonathan Smith (ASA President): What were your expectations coming into the weekend of Nationals?

Patrick Sheridan (Colorado, Open Champion): I just wanted to see the newer Denver guys meet some of the older ASA guys, and to facilitate some new friendships being formed. For my own play, I hoped to get out of the group and if I was playing well with some good matchups, I thought it would be great to have a tight semi-final game and maybe make the final.

2021 ASA Nationals Wrap Up

The American Subbuteo Association hosted a highly successful U.S. Nationals weekend in Denver, Colorado, on August 27-29, 2021. 18 players from 7 states attended the event organized by the Colorado Subbuteo Club. On Friday evening, Daniel Cranston won the Travelers’ Cup, a warm-up tournament for out-of-town players. Patrick Sheridan (Colorado) won the National Championship (Open category) with a 2-1 win over Paul Eyes (Maryland) in the final. (Watch the match below.) Peter Alegi (Michigan) took the Veterans’ title with a 2-1 sudden death victory over Eyes. (Watch the match below.) Shaun Kidsley (Indiana) won the Mary Jane tournament and Jake Schoonmaker (California) claimed the Beginners’ Cup. A friendly team event brought the weekend to a close.

2021 ASA National Championship Announced

The Colorado Subbuteo Club and ASA are proud to announce that this year’s National Championship will take place in Denver, Colorado on August 27-29 weekend. As the pandemic is easing and restrictions are being lifted, the CSC and ASA will follow all local and state guidelines for assuring a safe, responsible, and memorable event! We realize some folks may have legitimate concerns that prevent becoming vaccinated. Therefore, we will be asking those that are unvaccinated, to please protect themselves and others by wearing a mask during the event.
