We spoke with Peter Alegi of our FISTF World Cup team in the latest installment of an interview series with the USA squad.

ASA: Can you describe the feeling of representing the USA at the FISTF World Cup?

PA: It’s serious fun to wear the US jersey! It’s also an emotional feeling to play the World Cup in Rome, the city where I was born and grew up, and where I played my first major tournament, the Guerin Subbuteo, in 1978.

World Cup 2022 – Interview with Team USA’s Christian Filippella

We spoke with our FISTF World Cup team captain, Christian Filippella, in the first of a series of interviews with USA team members.

ASA: Can you describe the feeling of representing the USA at the World Cup?

CF: Playing for the US has a very special meaning, having played for my birth country, Italy, in the first part of my table soccer life. The US represents my new home, my new citizenship, and my new life. Wearing the US shirt and playing in the World Cup again feels like a rebirth to me.

9th Edition Flicko de Mayo 2022

The 9th edition of Flicko de Mayo will take place in Lafayette, Indiana, on Saturday, May 22. Organized by Grand Rapids TSC, this ASA Major and FISTF Satellite tournament takes place outside Michigan for the first time. 

Matches will be played on Extreme Works and AstroPitch tables with a 9:30am start. To register for the event, please contact organizers Peter Alegi of Grand Rapids TSC [alegi DOT peter AT gmail] or Shaun Kidsley [skidsley AT hotmail]. A $25 registration fee can be paid via PayPal or cash at venue. Deadline to register is May 14. The venue address will be provided upon completion of registration.

Playhard 22 Tournament

The PlayHard 22 tournament was held on Saturday, March 19th in Alexandria, Virginia, USA. The tournament was the fourth edition of the event, which began in 2017. Players traveled to compete and enjoys fun times in Northern Viriginia from states like North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Several clubs were represented such as the Outer Banks Subbuteo Club, Maryland Subbuteo Club, Washington Tuesday Subbuteo League, and AS Hennuyer. Congratulations to Daniel Cranston who won an amazing final against Paul Eyes in OT, 2-1.

Holiday Silver Tournament 2021 Wrap Up

The Holiday Silver 2021 tournament, a FISTF Satellite, was held in Columbia, Maryland, USA on December 4th. Paul Eyes and Daniel Cranston organized and hosted the event, which was the largest this year. Players came from seven states to participate in the annual tournament including California, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Three events were held: the Open, Vets, and U19 championships. Daniel Cranston won the Open against Patrick Sheridan with a score of 1-0. The Vet championship was won by Peter Alegi with Paul Eyes as runner up. Sam Cohen beat Mason Lilly to win the U19 bracket. The weekend of table soccer activity including the Zombie Cup (traditional Subbuteo Rules and equipment); Daniel Cranston claimed that title as well with a win in the final against Paul Eyes.

Colorado Subbuteo Club Swiss-Style Tournament

Saturday, October 9, 2021. 9am – 4 pm (PDT)

The Colorado Subbuteo Club is holding a Swiss-style Subbuteo tournament. If you’re not familiar with that, it means each player plays every round and there are no knockouts. This will be an easygoing tournament with many beginners so you should definitely go if you’re at all interested in playing Subbuteo, even if you’ve never played before. There is no entry fee.

2021 ASA Nationals Planned for Denver

The American Subbuteo Association Board of Directors wishes all members a happy new year. The COVID pandemic made 2020 an extremely difficult year for everyone, including the ASA and the global subbuteo table soccer community.

But 2021 brings new hope. With the distribution of effective vaccines underway and a more vigorous institutional response to the raging pandemic being put into place, we believe that by late summer 2021 most Americans will have access to the vaccine.

FISTF Reschedules 2021 World Cup to 2022

World-wide Coronavirus restrictions have postponed the 2021 Table Soccer World Cup to 2022.

It will not come as a surprise to anyone that the FISTF Board has, in conjunction with the Board of Federazione Italiana Sportiva Calcio Tavolo (FISCT), decided to cancel the 2020 (2021) World Cup, and has decided that the next edition will be staged in Rome in 2022.
